Link My Site Please

Posted by Fahz on 2011/03/07

They are coming to you at every direction. Scams & piggy-back marketing. Some of these may be neither, but I doubt it.

The webmaster in our department has been getting e-mail on efforts to get certain websites linked via the my site at the university. They look so real. Unlike typical “Nigerian” scam, the e-mails that we have been getting looks professional – no spelling mistakes, professional looking websites, etc.

This is one that I got today:

Comments: I just wanted to comment on the great teaching resources you have compiled here: http://aces.nmsu.edu/ces/mymoney/links.html. My students will be embarking on their first ever stock market game experience which everyone is excited about. I found many of your suggested financial links helpful for our preparation and I wanted to share another with you that I found some great ideas from: http://valuestockguide.com/tools-for-teaching-the-stock-market-game/ I figured other teachers could also benefit from it being added.

To this e-mail, the expert in the Stock Market Game commented, “I am not familiar with this web site, but it looks interesting. Looks like someone is trying to make a buck on the Stock Market Game

Hello,

Just wanted to thank you and let you know I’ve been using your page (http://aces.nmsu.edu/ces/mymoney/links.html) for some research.  I often do outreach to community youth on topics like debt, investing, and financial responsibility.

As a thank you for your helpful site here is another (credit_____.net) that you you may add to your page. It helped me break down topics like investing and money  management to young adults.

Hope this is helpful,

Perhaps, the first one

eglobalwireless.com

Posted by Fahz on 2010/06/15

It seems that everyone in the family needs a laptop. After getting a refurbished MAC from Apple website (not Quibids) about 9 months ago, we gut ourselves a 10″ ACER Netbook via craigslist.

While I am trying to figure out which child should get it, the children’s mom claimed that it’s hers.

So, I suppose we have another search for a laptop [after getting a refurbished Dell desktop to replaced our crashed up]!

With e-mail correspandes with my family members (s’times we do this … I know, we’re weird) in g-mail, an interesting ad popped up:

$99 Netbook from eglobalwireless.com

So, I decided to look the company up …

This site offers a 7″ Mini Netbook WIFI Windows 2 GB computer for $99.99 (black) or $129.99 in various colors. I called to ask more details about the product in that the manufacture is “Generic”. The response I got was, at best, unusual. The man I spoke with said they have no brand name — they are made in China. He further said they have 3,000 in stock and that it is an enticement to get people to their site since they don’t normally sell computers. I read their refund policy, a 25% restock fee!! Due to your previous customer comments and my personal experience, I will deal with a more reputable computer company.

Update July 23: India has came up with a $35 touch-screen computer.

e-Consumerism

Posted by Fahz on 2010/05/03

Tips on utilizing the internet to promote your organization, projects, etc:

  • Create a niche:  Have a theme, mood, style, etc. for your e-marketing tools. Don’t make them too general, thus, readers may get confused.
  • Listen and react: Alter your e-writings according to reactions, comments, and hits.
  • Videos: People are less into reading and more into videos. That reminds me about 4-H workbook that merely describe activities in written form. They would be a whole lot easier to follow if that were done in video-form. e.g. http://12seconds.tv/ via tweetdeck is available; http://screenr.com/ . BONUS: Free e-resources for teaching mediums.

60 in 60: Lutz & McGrath at PETE&C 2010

  • Blogging: Blogging should be the main face of your e-marketing, while twitter and Facebook would be mediums to spread out the words.
  • Twitter: RSS is on its deathbed – ’nuff said. Different twitter accounts for an organization may be better due to different focus (e.g. food, health, money, home business)

LinkedIn

Posted by Fahz on 2010/04/12

More social media marketing connection – this time is for this wordpress blog to LinkedIn.

LinkedIn has certainly evolved since the last time I really utilized it about 18 months ago.

An intereting thing to note about LinkedIn is that a presentation attendee in my Social Media Marketing exclaimed that LinkedIn is the next big thing. I don’t really see that because LinkedIn tend to be more serious since it’s linkedness to job opportunities. But again after, unfriending trend, we are seeing college students and job-seekers are removing their postings, picture tags, comments, etc. that they have on the internet.

More on Quibids

Posted by Fahz on 2010/02/15

Since I’ve been getting so many hit and responses on myprevious Quibids post, I’ve decided to do extra researches on this small-increment auction, which is better known as Penny Auction. To summarize, from my short website research I still cannot determine its legality and whether the government has this issue studied.

Popularized by swoopo.com (according to Associated Content), other Penny Auction sites include bidray.com and gobid.com . I haven’t studied their terms and conditions but their reviews are not great. Note: People who put reviews tend to be market mavens and those who were not satisfied with their products plus it’s difficult to verify their information. Guess what? Quibids‘ are on that website too!

Wow! There are also Penny Auction sites such as pennyauctionwatch.com, pennyauctionlist.com, and pennyauctioninfo.com that list items on this type of auction from various sites. These Penny Auction companies most likely pay these sites to list their products.

…. one of commentors of my previous Quibids post, Irina, was a computer programmer. Her comment was what some had predicted. A more elaborate comment by a programmer is available in this codinghorror.com blog posting.

Google Alert

Posted by Fahz on 2009/12/18

After my recent post on a personal finance conference, I received an e-mail from one of the organizations at the conference, clarifying on the information that I have on my posting.

The below Google Alert came to me (I'm VP of The Money Coaching Institute) and I wanted to give you the correct group that has the Credit Score Improvement program.

The correct website is www.creditscoreplus.net for the book The Road to 850 and Al Bingham.
What we do at the MCI is a bit different -- "internal" finance rather than external, helping people to understand themselves better around their money belief system and shift what's not working for them through Money Coaching.

Good blog -- thanks again for the mention, albeit for a
different thing...

Anyways, this exemplifies a usage of Google Alert, which alerts you of any new on-line postings on items you specified. It’s kinda like # in twitter.

The company has done it for his company. I have done it for my name. What would you do?
